CIMES received a 2018 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in the Education & Training Electronic Media category for an online course called Recall Audit Checks. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in collaboration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration funded the web-based training module. The department conducts Recall Audit Checks in collaboration with the FDA to ensure that food and product recalls have been appropriately carried out. CIMES developed a scenario-based, web-based training for delivery in a just-in-time manner for food inspectors that conduct these checks. The training includes familiarization with FDA Form 3177 and an approach that helps learners grasp concepts quickly and effectively. The module demonstrates how to conduct a recall audit check and then allows learners to participate in a simulation that assesses their learning. This allows food inspectors to quickly learn or re-familiarize themselves with an essential, but seldom-required, job task. Developed in conjunction with the Florida Integrated Rapid Response team, this training will be used at a national level by several FDA partners.
