Florida ExpertNet Is the Smart Idea for Expertise

Florida ExpertNet is a free statewide portal of research expertise profiles across Florida's universities. CIMES launched ExpertNet 25 years ago and continues to enhance the site to bring added value to Florida universities, businesses, and communities.

ExpertNet helps universities connect the public, business, and industry with their faculty expertise; facilitates cooperation and sharing among researchers; and maximizes use of existing resources.

Florida Department of Health Employee Training

The Florida Department of Health contracted with CIMES to develop 11 online courses for its employees. The project began with analysis of the scope of the content and needs of targeted learners, followed by development of a design document to establish the look and feel of the series. CIMES worked with Department staff to create storyboards and online modules that feature live actor narration, computer narration, images, instruction, learner interactions, learning checks, and more.

Course to Increase Awareness of Sex Trafficking

CIMES worked with Shared Hope International to produce three web-based trainings on sex trafficking. The entry-level course introduces the crime of domestic minor sex trafficking, how traffickers exploit victims, and services victims need to recover. The second course provides guidance for healthcare and social service providers on meeting survivors' needs. The third introduces law enforcement and criminal justice personnel to victim-offender intersectionality.

CIMES Awarded $4.8 Million from California Tobacco Control

The California Department of Public Health has awarded CIMES a five-year grant to continue a 23-year partnership fighting tobacco use. In 2001, CIMES developed a system for CDPH that supports the lifecycle of grants management to fund tobacco control programs across California. The system also supports analysis of program effectiveness at the local level. California has the longest, most successful tobacco prevention program in the U.S. CIMES is excited to continue providing outstanding services to support this client’s evolving needs.

Connecting Moms to Care

Florida BH IMPACT and the Florida State University College of Medicine worked with CIMES to update and relaunch the FL Moms Mental Health Resource Directory, now called Connecting Moms to Care. The revised directory brings a fresh, easy-to-use design, an updated search tool, and the option for providers to log in and maintain their own data. Its purpose is to improve perinatal mental healthcare and outcomes in Florida.

Florida State University - College of Medicine

Florida BH IMPACT and the Florida State University College of Medicine worked with CIMES to create the FL Moms Mental Health Resource Directory. This new site brings a fresh, easy-to-use design, a powerful search tool, and the option for providers to manage their own data. A new map feature displays provider locations. The map view was created using CartoDB, OpenStreetMap, and Leaflet. Providers and moms may print and save their search results.

Open Doors Outreach Network Training

Voices for Florida

The Open Doors Outreach Network was launched by Voices for Florida in 2016 as part of a coordinated effort to address service gaps for victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking. Through a network of partner organizations, ODON provides a coordinated system of care that is supported by trauma-competent best practices and translational research. The Open Doors model uses teams that consist of a survivor-mentor, a regional representative, and a clinician. CIMES developed training to support the development of knowledge and skills that ensure fidelity to ODON’s service model, leading to standardized quality care regardless of location.

Highway Performance Monitoring System

Florida Department of Transportation - Transportation Data Analytics Office

The Florida Department of Transportation collects data for a national-level information system known as the Highway Performance Monitoring System. CIMES worked closely with the HPMS expert to identify the knowledge, processes, procedures, skills, and aptitudes technicians need to perform the data collection tasks. CIMES then developed web-based training that includes scenarios with multiple solutions and assessments that provide rich feedback to help model behavior, deepen understanding, and promote transfer of learning.

The Bureau of Preparedness at the Florida Department of Health is in charge of health-related emergency response across the state. The bureau needed to provide training on the basics of emergency management and response to personnel with a wide variety of knowledge and skills who would be called upon to perform tasks in an emergency that are outside the scope of their usual job functions.CIMES developed web-based training on the basics of emergency management and response. The training covers all four phases of the Disaster Management Cycle—Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation.

The Graduate Candidate Identification System (GCIS) is a unified site where junior- and senior-level undergraduates at any Florida public university may submit an interest form and invite potential contact from graduate programs, fellowships, summer research programs, and other opportunities in higher education across the state.

Traffic Forecasting Training

Florida Department of Transportation - Transportation Data Analytics Office

The FDOT central office needed to create a more standardized process for traffic forecasting by implementing a common training course across all Florida districts. CIMES carried out a four-month research project using techniques that included a job task analysis, focus groups, office observations, and in-depth interviews. This process culminated in the generation of a preliminary competency model that was validated by a team of traffic analyst experts. Twelve cases at varying degrees of difficulty and in various project types were identified to be part of a scenario-based training approach. Tasks, knowledge, procedures, skills, tools, and other critical elements were identified for each case.

Sample Collection Training for Food Inspectors

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services - Division of Agricultural Environmental Services

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services oversees food sampling throughout Florida for adulteration and misbranding. Existing training was delivered face-to-face, once a year. CIMES developed a web-based training solution that standardizes food sampling procedures for all employees across the state and can be accessed at any time, without the need for a formal training meeting. The training serves as an orientation for new hires and a refresher for current food inspectors.

Trauma-Informed Approach for Patrol Officers

Florida Council Against Sexual Violence

This short, high-impact web-based training can be used in group roll-call situations at law enforcement agencies or viewed by patrol officers on their own. The module uses video interviews with a police captain, a state attorney, a trauma expert, and a patient representative to deliver its core message about the effects of trauma and encourage officers to adopt trauma-informed approaches. It also includes a practice scenario in which officers are presented with multiple-choice options for how to respond to a "victim" at various points in the law enforcement interview.
