Open Doors Outreach Network Evaluation

Voices for Florida

The Voices for Florida Open Doors Outreach Network seeks to improve care, coordination, and outcomes for commercially sexually exploited and trafficked children. The network uses an innovative approach that engages teams of survivor-mentors, regional advocates, and clinicians to provide 24/7 care to recovering victim. CIMES developed a performing a developmental evaluation to assess the effectiveness of the service model at the current pilot sites. The study will also identify which aspects of the model need to be maintained and sustained as it is being implemented at new sites and which aspects of the model can be modified to fit the local needs of partner organizations.

Educator Certification Quick Start Videos

Florida Department of Education - Bureau of Educator Certification 

This four-minute video usis whiteboard animation to introduce new educator certification applicants to the online certification process and helps them through typical "sticking points" in that application process. The video is fast-paced and includes many screen shots and action animations to illustrate specific steps in the application process. It also employs animated characters and humor to keep viewers engaged throughout the short video.

Traffic Forecasting Training

Florida Department of Transportation - Transportation Data Analytics Office

The FDOT central office needed to create a more standardized process for traffic forecasting by implementing a common training course across all Florida districts. CIMES carried out a four-month research project using techniques that included a job task analysis, focus groups, office observations, and in-depth interviews. This process culminated in the generation of a preliminary competency model that was validated by a team of traffic analyst experts. Twelve cases at varying degrees of difficulty and in various project types were identified to be part of a scenario-based training approach. Tasks, knowledge, procedures, skills, tools, and other critical elements were identified for each case.

Freight Forecasting Data Management

Florida Department of Transportation - Transportation Data Analytics Office

The Transportation Statistics Office was preparing for new responsibilities related to managing a more comprehensive and varied body of transportation data, including freight data and data associated with other transportation modes, such as maritime and air. TranStat needed a detailed picture of the types of data available—along with acquisition, storage, and maintenance strategies. CIMES researched data monitoring needs, identified data sources and providers, and conducted an audit of data and quality assurance practices. A strategy was developed for data acquisition, storage, maintenance, and quality assurance, role-based data access, delivery, and reporting specifications.

Trauma-Informed Approach for Patrol Officers

Florida Council Against Sexual Violence

This short, high-impact web-based training can be used in group roll-call situations at law enforcement agencies or viewed by patrol officers on their own. The module uses video interviews with a police captain, a state attorney, a trauma expert, and an advocate to deliver its core message about the effects of trauma and encourage officers to adopt trauma-informed approaches. It also includes a practice scenario in which officers are presented with multiple-choice options for how to respond to a "victim" at various points in the law enforcement interview.

Florida State University - Center for Intensive English Studies

The Center for Intensive English Studies at Florida State University needed a centralized business management system to encompass all the needs of the center, which to a large degree were different from those of the university as a whole. CIMES created a portal and content management system that encompassed student application and registration, course and session creation, faculty assignments, recording of grades and attendance, billing, and reporting.

State University System of Florida Board of Governors

The Clearinghouse for Applied Research and Public Service provides information services and products to support the State University System of Florida Board of Governors and its mission to promote Florida universities’ talent and resources. The Clearinghouse hosts several key web-based systems, including Florida ExpertNet, the Centers & Institutes Reporting system, and the Graduate Recruitment System.

Versa District Partners Training

Florida Department of Education - Bureau of Educator Certification 

The Bureau of Educator Certification at the Florida Department of Education is responsible for evaluating, granting, and maintaining licensure for Florida educators. The bureau offers its certification partners in Florida’s school districts training and other resources to assist with their responsibilities. In 2017, the bureau launched a new software system, called Versa, to handle its licensing processes and needed to provide training on the system to district partners and staff. CIMES developed web-based training, video demos, and print-based job aids to prepare current and new employees to use the Versa system.
